     Forging produced parts that are stronger than equivalent cast or machined parts.When a metal is formed during the forging process, the internal grains deform to conform to the general shape of the part.This results in a continuous texture throughout the part, resulting in its high strength characteristics.According to the temperature at which the forging is processed, the forging can be roughly classified as cold forging, warm forging or hot forging.

    Steel is almost always hot forged, which prevents work hardening from cold forging.Work hardening increases the difficulty of secondary machining operations on metal parts.When work hardening is required, other hardening methods, especially heat treatment, may be applied to the workpiece.Alloys that are prone to precipitation hardening, such as aluminum and titanium, can be hot forged and then hardened.Because of their high strength, forgings are almost always used in places where reliability and personal safety are critical, such as the aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, oil drilling, engine, and petrochemical industries.

    Ti 6Al4V, alpha-beta grade, is the most widely available and heavily used of all the titanium grades. The alloy is heat treatable and combines excellent strength and corrosion resistance with weld and fabricability.
