Hot die forging is a promising precision forging process.The difference is that the die temperature of hot die forging is higher than that of ordinary forging, but lower than that of isothermal forging.The typical die forging temperature is 110 ~ 225℃ lower than the blank temperature.Compared with isothermal forging, die materials can be widely selected due to the decrease of die temperature, but the ability of forming very thin and complex forgings is a little poor.
(1) reduce the forgings material consumption due to hot die forging, reduce the cold of the die contact blank and the work hardening of the material, improve the malleability of the material, so allow forgings with a smaller fillet radius, a smaller drawing Angle and a smaller forging margin, thus greatly reducing the quality of the forgings.For example, the mass of a Ti-6Al-4V alloy structure part is 28kg, the mass of the forgings produced by the conventional forging process is 154kg, while the mass of the forgings produced by the hot die forging process is 109kg, the difference between the two methods is 45kg.
(2) reduce the number of times of forging operations, improve the working capacity of the press because of hot die forging, die temperature is higher, the temperature of the blank is less, conventional forging needs two fires, three fires or more fires to form the forgings, hot die forging only once, two fires can be completed at most.And because of hot die forging, the deformation resistance of metal is low, which increases the working capacity of the equipment.
3) reduce the amount of machining forgings because the production of forgings close to the weight of the parts and profile size, so compared with the conventional forging production of forgings, the removal of materials in machining is reduced.
(4) the uniformity of the product is better because the temperature gradient is greatly reduced in the forging process, and the uneven deformation caused by the temperature gradient is easy to reduce, so the uniformity and consistency of the organization and performance of the product is better than that of the forgings produced by conventional forging, but less than that of the isothermal forging.
Titanium Gr3/F3 is pure titanium grade with higher strength and lower plasticity than GR2 , so it has been commonly used in civil industry ,such as: welded pipe-line,vessel etc. And standard can be followed: ASTMB 381.
